Visual Performance Evaluation
All patients receive a comprehensive visual performance evaluation, which includes a complete visual work-up, including a discussion of the patient's health history and symptoms to aid in diagnosis, a visual acuity test, a chair-side visual skills evaluation, and a battery of performance tests to assess eye teaming, eye tracking, and accuracy of the reading eye movements with the ReadAlyzer computer based tracking recorder. It is recommended that patients schedule a comprehensive eye exam annually for early diagnosis of eye conditions and to update corrective lens prescriptions. These comprehensive annual exams should be completed before a patient is seen at the Southeastern Indiana Vision Development Center.
Vision therapy uses various non-invasive procedures and exercises to improve eye conditions and eye function. Not to be confused with exercises aimed at strengthening the eye muscles, vision therapy exercises improve visual abilities, function, skill, ease of use, comfort, and the ability to process visual information. Depending on patient diagnosis, Dr. Weigel will treat any existing eye conditions using various vision therapy techniques including orthopic, behavioral, visual processing, perception therapy, and sensory learning. Vision therapy sessions usually last 45 minutes and are scheduled once per week.
Patients who have suffered any ailment, disease, or injury which has resulted in a vision impairment require visual rehabilitation. During rehabilitation, patients will undergo various treatments and vision therapies to restore their visual abilities to an optimal level of function.
Sports vision therapy aims to optimize the visual process of athletes, and to reduce the risk of injury through faster visual processing, by enhancing both visual perceptual skills and visual motor skills. Using vision therapy procedures and corrective eyewear to maximize visual acuity, Dr. Weigel allows athletes' to develop better visual motor skills and cognitive perception of visual information after completing the specialized vision therapy program to maximize their performance.
